A word on scale

I realised when I shared the photographs of the rooms earlier, that I didn't really give an idea of the scale of the rooms.

Roughly, I go for 1/6th scale. But as I'm working with antiques, they never end up that accurate, which I don't mind. It adds to the charm.

The reason for that is that most of these items were novelties that had no real purpose, they were not designed to be in a doll house, or be played with.

So, in the tradition of many an eBay listing, here  we go, with each room compared to a can of tomatoes. A standard 400g can, if you must know!

You can see the kind of scale I'm working with by comparing an item I bought to match something I had owned since I was twelve..

A glass chicken. I used to put my Easter eggs in it.

But I manage to find two miniature versions of it. Despite being tiny, they have almost the same amount of detail as the large version. But why were they created? I can only assume they are "toys" for 1950's children?
